The monastic community celebrates the Divine Office and Mass together each day in the Abbey Church.
In addition to being the monastic community’s church, Buckfast Abbey is a parish church within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth. The parish is in the care of the monks and parish Masses are celebrated in three Mass centres in neighbouring villages, in addition to those in the Abbey itself. Below are listed both the monastic services and the parish services in the Abbey Church and other Mass centres. Occasionally, times of services are changed because of special circumstances, and there are particular timetables at Christmas and Easter, so you may like to check the ‘What’s On’ page for details if you plan to attend, particularly if you are travelling some distance.
PLEASE NOTE: This Wednesday, 12th of August, please note that the Abbey Church will be closed to visitors between 12:00 noon and 15:30. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. A spoken 17:00 Mass will take place in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and 18:30 Vespers and 20:00 Compline will take place as usual.
